Books of the Summer

If you are like me, you can’t wait for summer. Typically, the summer brings about the three “Rs.” Rest, relaxation, and reading.

Many authors release new titles over the summer. In the spirit of vacation mode, and as a follow-up to our swoon-worthy beach reads post from last year, here are this year’s swoon-worthy reads, or as I am calling them, the books of the summer.

The Paradise Problem

Besties Christina Hobbes and Lauren Billings (pen name Christina Lauren) return with a delicious new romance between the buttoned-up heir of a grocery chain and his free-spirited artist ex as they fake their relationship to receive a massive inheritance. Full disclosure, this is the only book on this list I haven’t read yet, but it’s up next on my list!

Just for the Summer

Abby Jimenez is becoming one of my favorite authors. Hands down. Her Part of Your World Series (I’ve read Yours Truly twice!) continues with this fun, easy-to-read or listen-to, story about Justin and Emma and their plan to break each other’s dating curses.

Funny Story

Emily Henry can do no wrong! And she continues to do no wrong (at least for me) in her newest book Funny Story. When Daphne’s fiance dumps her for his best friend, she moves in with said friend’s ex-boyfriend. It’s not hard to deduce where the story goes, but you’ll have to check it out yourself!

The Women

In this new historical fiction novel, one of my favorite authors Kristin Hannah follows Frankie McGrath before, during, and after she serves in the Vietnam War. The Goodreads synopsis puts it best, “A novel about deep friendships and bold patriotism, The Women is a richly drawn story with a memorable heroine whose idealism and courage under fire will come to define an era.”

The Heiress

This was my first Rachel Hawkins novel and I can confidently say, it won’t be my last. Even though I figured out the plot twist pretty quickly, I still enjoyed this one from start to finish. Promoted as a “thriller” this book follows Camden and Jules McTavish on their path to claim Cam’s family fortune. Or at least who thinks is his family…
There you have it! Five books of the summer. Or at least the ones I recommend. These books will keep you entertained whether you listen, download, or prefer the “old-fashioned” page-turner.
