Celebrate National Parents’ Day July 28th

Sunday, July 28 is Parents’ Day. This is my first year ever hearing of the holiday. It was created in 1994 under President Bill Clinton. Mothers are celebrated in May and fathers are celebrated in June. National Parents’ Day celebrates the importance of the role of parents in their children and families lives each day. This day is meant to show appreciation to the dynamic duo of a mother and father figure in a person’s life.

This is an occasion to celebrate couples and a gift they can use together with their family is a great way to mark the occasion. The gift should be thoughtful and does not have to cost a lot of money. Possible ways to celebrate Parents’ Day as a family unit:

Cook a meal together. Ask each family member to prepare a dish such as an appetizer, soup, salad, entree, and dessert. Sit down and enjoy a meal together as a family without distractions like television, cell phones, and tablets. Talk about your day, goals as a family or plan a vacation. This is a simple way to spend quality time together as a family, especially if you are not able to do this often due to other commitments.

Get active together. Go outside and go for a walk/jog as a family. You could even ride bikes, skate or skateboards if you choose. The important thing is the family spends time together. Walk around the neighborhood or venture out to a nearby park.

Stay mentally sharp. As a family, spend some together gaining knowledge by visiting the local library, putting together a puzzle or playing a board game such as Scrabble or Family Feud. These are fun, inexpensive ways for families to have fun while exercising their brains together.

Do you celebrate Parents’ Day or will you start this year? If so, what will you do?
