National Coffee Day

Happy National Coffee Day! It seems that there’s a holiday for almost everything. And I’m so glad that there’s a day to celebrate coffee. I’m sure you all must know by now, how much I love coffee.

This may come as a surprise, but I wasn’t always a coffee lover. This is also a bit strange even for me, considering that in my culture, coffee is a staple in Dominican households. As a child, I remember waking up in the morning to the aroma of strong coffee.

Even when I became an adult and had my two older sons, I never really cared for coffee. When I married my husband, we put a Keurig on our wedding registry. Back then, I would drink coffee once in a blue moon. I absolutely loved our Keurig, but I just wasn’t really into drinking coffee. I primarily used it to make hot chocolate. To be honest, there just wasn’t any flavor I really enjoyed. The only time I would randomly drink coffee was when Starbucks had a limited edition or seasonal drink. It wasn’t until my second son was in kindergarten that I started to drink more coffee and use my Keurig more frequently.

Now that I’m a mom of three boys, I drink coffee all the time, and I absolutely love it. I made an effort to actually figure out which k-cups I like, if I like using milk, creamers, sugar, etc. in my drinks. Once we figured out what drinks we loved, we started to use the Keurig more. It also helped that a lot of companies are now making k-cups, which means that we have even more options.

To me, coffee is the ultimate pick-me-up, and it gives me a boost of energy. Let’s face it with three boys, an incredibly busy schedule, and being an adult…I need all the energy that I can get. And having a cup of coffee is the best way to get me up and moving.

So there you have it, the story of how I came to love coffee. With that being said, Happy National Coffee Day. Have a cup of coffee or two. I know I will.
