Atlanta Moms’ Ultimate Summer Reading List

After what felt like the longest winter ever, sunshine season is finally here! As a reader, one of my favorite parts of summer is picking out the perfect summer beach read. There’s just something about putting a new book inside your pool bag, along with kids’ toys and snacks, that makes it feel like the start of summer.

All winter long, I start building up my summer “To Be Read” list, where I dream of sitting in the sun and getting a few uninterrupted pages in. For me, the ultimate summer read looks like a dreamy romance, but for others it might look like a binge-worthy thriller you stay up way too late reading, or a deep and thoughtful literary fiction novel that lingers after the summer ends. OUR PERFECT STORM – Carley Fortune

Recently published in May 2026, this one is sure to be all the rage this summer! Carley Fortune is known for her dreamy, picturesque settings and emotional romance stories that completely pull you in, and this one is no exception. Filled with longing, nostalgia, and a friends-to-lovers storyline you’ll absolutely devour, Our Perfect Storm feels like the kind of book that was made to be read poolside with a piña colada in hand.

THEO OF GOLDEN – Allen Levi

Theo of Golden is the definition of a feel-good book. It’s one of those stories that leaves you wanting to wave to strangers on the sidewalk or strike up a conversation with the grocery store cashier. Thoughtful, heartwarming, and deeply character-driven, this novel gently reminds readers of the beauty of human connection and small-town community. If you love slower-paced stories filled with charm and heart, this is the perfect cozy summer read.

THE CORRESPONDENT – Virginia Evans

This witty, relatable, and emotional story was all the rage last year, making it the perfect summer read if it’s still sitting on your TBR list! Told entirely through letters, emails and notes exchanged with the sharp and lovable 73-year-old protagonist, The Correspondent beautifully captures how words can bridge loneliness, deepen connection and reveal the messy complexities of life and relationships.

THE FIVE STAR WEEKEND – Elin Hilderbrand

Any Elin Hilderbrand novel makes for the ultimate binge-worthy beach read, but this one feels especially fitting right now since it’s being released as a TV series on July 9th, 2026! Set against the gorgeous Nantucket backdrop Elin is famous for, The Five-Star Weekend is packed with friendship drama, complicated relationships, secrets and emotional twists that will keep you flying through the pages. Definitely grab this one before the show comes out!

SHARK HEART – Emily Habeck

This novel completely caught me by surprise and left me in tears. While the premise may sound unusual — the story centers around a man slowly transforming into a great white shark — it’s ultimately a deeply emotional and beautifully written story about love, grief, change, and caregiving. Shark Heart explores what it means to hold onto someone while simultaneously preparing to let them go, and it’s one of those rare books that stays with you long after you finish it.

THE WEDDING PEOPLE – Alison Espach

Equal parts funny, emotional, and surprisingly hopeful, The Wedding People is one of those books that completely sneaks up on you, and was one of my favorites of 2025! Set at a glamorous coastal wedding weekend, this story perfectly balances humor with deeper themes of loneliness, reinvention, and finding yourself again. It’s witty, heartfelt, and incredibly readable. It’s the kind of book you’ll fly through in a couple of days!

SUMMER STATE OF MIND – Kristy Woodson Harvey

Kristy Woodson Harvey simply knows how to write summer, and this one feels like sunshine in book form. Filled with charming Southern settings, family dynamics, friendship, and a little romance, Summer State of Mind is the perfect light-but-emotional beach read to toss in your vacation bag. If you love stories that feel cozy, nostalgic, and full of heart, definitely add this one to your summer stack.

MY HUSBAND’S WIFE – Alice Feeney

If your ideal beach read keeps you saying “wait… WHAT?” every few chapters, this is the book for you. Alice Feeney is the queen of twisty psychological thrillers, and My Husband’s Wife is packed with secrets, unreliable characters, and jaw-dropping reveals. This is the kind of binge-worthy thriller you’ll stay up way too late reading because you absolutely have to know what happens next.

SANDWICH – Catherine Newman

Sandwich is one of those deceptively simple books that quietly sneaks up on you in the best way. Set during a family summer vacation, this story beautifully captures the complexities of motherhood, marriage, aging, and family dynamics with so much honesty, warmth, and humor. It feels deeply relatable for moms in particular and perfectly balances emotional depth with light, summery charm.

THE GOD OF THE WOODS – Liz Moore

Part literary fiction and part gripping mystery, The God of the Woods is the kind of atmospheric novel that completely pulls you in from the very first page. Filled with family secrets, privilege, grief, and long-buried truths, this story feels rich and layered while still being incredibly bingeable. If you love a more thoughtful read that still keeps you turning the pages late into the night, definitely add this one to your summer list.

SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER – Annabel Monaghan

This novel has all the ingredients of the perfect summer romance: nostalgia, beach-town charm, and a heartfelt second-chance love story.
