August brings a little bit of everything to the Atlanta area—back-to-school excitement, the last hoorah of summer, and plenty of opportunities to make family memories. If you’re too busy checking off school supply lists and settling into new routines to hunt down fun things to do, don’t sweat it—we’ve got you covered! We’ve rounded up some of the best family-friendly events happening across metro Atlanta so you can make the most of August.
August Family-Friendly Events In and Around Atlanta
Now–September 13 – Wild Kratts: Ocean Adventure, Children’s Museum of Atlanta. Using Wild Kratts technology and the powers of science and teamwork, visitors will join the Wild Kratts team to solve problems, help animals, and foil the villains’ nefarious plans. This exhibit is recommended for children ages 3-9 and includes a “tot spot” specifically for children under three years of age.
August 1 & 29 – Braves Block Party, The Battery Atlanta, starting 4 hours before first pitch. Braves Block Parties bring fans together before select home games for an electric mix of live entertainment and nonstop energy—just steps away from the ballpark.
August 1 – First Free Saturday: Animals Habitats and Homes, Dunwoody Nature Center, 10 am. Join a Dunwoody Nature Center educator for a cozy, family-friendly adventure into the diverse homes and habitats that shelter our local wildlife.
August 1 – Southside Beltline 8K and 3K, Atlanta Track Club, 7:15 am. Join the Track Club for the first annual Southside Beltline race in 2026, and explore the newest section of the Beltline! Test your speed in the competitive 8K (ages 9 & older) or stick to the non-competitive* 3K (ages 7 & older), where strollers and dogs are welcome.
August 7 – Art Walk, Marietta Square, 5-9 pm. Experience the local art scene and dine at the restaurant you have been wanting to try. Good for a date night or a way to casually introduce your kids to local art and artists.
August 9 – UPS Second Sunday, High Museum of Art, 12-5 pm. FREE admission for all visitors.
August 15 – Cereal Saturdays, Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts, 10 am-12:30 pm. Revisit classic puppet TV shows from the past in a laid-back, living room-like environment, complete with a selection of cereals, milk, juice, and coffee available for purchase. Cereal Saturday is included with paid museum admission.
August 16 – The Wiggles, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 6 pm. In a concert filled with surprises, this high-energy extravaganza is set to have the whole family singing, dancing, and Wiggling from start to end!
August 22 – Reptile Day, Fernbank, 10 am- 1 pm. Experience the wild world of reptiles at Fernbank’s annual Reptile Day. Come face-to-face with live animals like snakes, lizards, turtles and more.
August 22 – Atlanta’s Finest 5K, Atlanta Track Club, 7:30 am. Join the Atlanta Police Foundation for the 2026 Atlanta’s Finest 5K, organized by Atlanta Track Club. This race is an opportunity to thank local law enforcement and public safety officials for keeping the roads safe during Atlanta Track Club’s events throughout the year.
August 23 – Fox Archives Day, Fox Theatre, 3 pm. This special event celebrates the Fox Theatre’s rich history and cultural significance, offering attendees a unique opportunity to explore archival materials, artifacts, and exhibits that tell the story of this iconic Atlanta landmark.
August 29 – Play the Animal Way, Zoo Atlanta, 10 am-3 pm. Watch your favorite Zoo animals investigate the most colorful surprises of the year, sniff out their favorite scents, and solve challenging puzzles. Human guests can try a few hands-on activities at stations throughout the Zoo.
August 29 – Electronics Recycling at Zoo Atlanta, 9 am-12 pm. Join Zoo Atlanta as we participate in the Gorillas on the Line…Answer the Call campaign to collect cell phones and small electronic devices for recycling with our partner ecocell. The proceeds from these recycled devices support the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Gorilla SAFE (Saving Animals from Extinction) Program.
