Where to Score the Best Back-to-School Deals

By the time you are reading this, you may already be back to school. But, if you are anything like us, you’re still on the search for the best back-to-school deals.

Where to Score the Best Back-To-School DealsGrowing up, going shopping for school supplies and the perfect outfit for the first day of school, was a big deal. I wanted to have the best folders, a new backpack, and a new outfit. My parents taught my siblings and me the value of a dollar, but that didn’t stop us from wanting new stuff every school year.

Now that I’m a parent, I wrestle with my kid’s wants and needs from time to time. Since I’m not the latest lottery winner, finances definitely help prioritize needs versus wants. Another thing that helps my bank account is finding a good deal.

Fortunately, back to school doesn’t have to put a huge dent in your pocketbook. With a little effort, you can rack up some good deals.

Where to Score the Best Back-to-School Deals

Clothing

Whether you are looking for the first day of school outfit or a fall wardrobe, there are usually lots of clothing discounts. Big box retailers, such as Target, tend to have sales and special promotions where you save money if your purchases exceed a certain dollar amount. For example, stores like The Children’s Place often advertise 50-60% or more off kids’ clothing this time of year. If summer clothes are put on clearance, that’s even better. The southern weather doesn’t get cooler right away, so you may get further wear from t-shirts and shorts a while longer.

Electronic Equipment

With the virtual schooling from last year, you may have already purchased a laptop or tablet. However, if you’re in the market for new electronics for school, you can still save money this year too. Places like Best Buy may come to mind, but be sure to check out Sam’s Club or Costco for sales too. If you’re an Apple fan, check out the Apple Education Store for laptops and tablets.

Supplies

It’s typical to have paper, pens, pencils, and notebooks on your shopping list. Most stores offer these items and more for less than a few dollars. Some of my favorite recommendations are Staples, Walmart, and Target. Also, don’t sleep on your local Dollar Tree. They have a Teacher’s Corner where you can rack up supplies like pencil cases and storage baskets. Stores like Walgreens and CVS are additional options if you don’t like larger stores.

For backpacks and lunchboxes, check out Amazon for their AmazonBasics line. Stores like Kohls and Finish Line usually have deals on name-brand backpacks in addition to clothing and shoes. If your little one has a specific character in mind, look at shopDisney to match backpacks and lunchboxes.

If classroom supply lists include cleaning supplies, be sure to check out warehouse clubs for multipacks of disinfecting wipes and large refills of hand sanitizer. You can even check out stores like Land’s End for discounts on regular back-to-school items.

The back-to-school season is here, and you have lots of options. Review what you need and compare prices before making your purchases. If you’re an online shopper, look into Rakuten for additional cashback options on your purchases. Every penny saved counts!
