Planning a Holiday Road Trip? Check out These Podcasts!

Holiday travel is exhausting and overwhelming and stressful. The traffic is usually horrible. The weather can be a nightmare. Throw kids in the mix, and the experience can be downright dreadful.

Do you have a road trip coming up in the next couple of months to visit family or friends? Or maybe your friends and family are coming to visit your house! My favorite way to pass the time in the car is to throw some snacks into the back seat to keep the munchkins entertained and pop on a podcast for the adults up front.

I’m constantly on the hunt for new and interesting podcasts to listen to. I typically like to steer clear of podcasts with a political tone, but I’ve found many others that are compelling, and many that are just simply entertaining. I’d love to share some of my favorites with you! Some of these may be popular, but some still feel like secret discoveries that I’d love to share with the world.

How I Built This

“How I Built This” with Guy Raz is the very first podcast that I ever listened to. Guy has the most enjoyable, happy voice to listen to and shares his interviews with the founders of some of the most successful, well-known businesses around today. It’s fascinating to hear about the struggles that business entrepreneurs have gone through and how they’ve managed to create mega-success from scratch.  Some favorite episodes include Sara Blakely of Spanx (a fellow Atlantan), Gary Erickson of Clif Bar, Jake Carpenter of Burton Snowboards, and Kendra Scott of Kendra Scott jewelry.

One Bad Mother

“One Bad Mother” is a comedic take on parenting and motherhood, hosted by “Biz” and “Theresa”. The hosts have such distinct and endearing voices. Some of my favorite segments of the show include “Genius and Fail Moments” and “Mom Having a Breakdown.” Biz and Teresa have truly found a refreshing way to share, support and laugh at the highs and lows of parenting.

Dirty John

“Dirty John” tells the true crime story of the relationship between Debra Newell and John Meehan, a wealthy couple in Southern California. I’d hate to give too much of the story away, but it is gripping and addicting! If you are interested in true crime, this podcast is a definite must.

Up and Vanished

“Up and Vanished” is another fantastic true crime podcast, hosted by Payne Lindsey. Payne dives deep into the cold case of the disappearance of Tara Grinstead. Tara was a popular teacher and beauty queen in Ocilla, Georgia who simply vanished 13 years ago. Payne manages to uncover some incredibly important information from the residents of Ocilla – and by the end of his story, an arrest is made!
