Winter Events In and Around Atlanta

The Atlanta area and beyond has many options for fun excursions and entertainment, even during the wintertime! Check out some of the possibilities for family fun and adventure!

Holiday Themed In and Around Atlanta 

Stone Mountain  – Stone Mountain’s annual Stone Mountain Christmas runs until January 2, 2022. Enjoy the regular Stone Mountain attractions such as the Scenic Railway and the Summit Skyride. During the holiday season enjoy festive music, magical storytimes, and Christmas characters. (Read more about A Stone Mountain Christmas here.)

Margaritaville’s Lakeside Lights at Lake Lanier – Lake Lanier’s walk-through Christmas light show returns this year and will be open until February 27. Festive and unique light displays and holiday music make this trip fun for the whole family. After viewing the lights, more fun can be found at the License to Chill Snow Island. Snow Island boasts a 575-foot snow slide along with an ice rink, amusement rides, s’mores, and hot chocolate.

Six Flags Over Georgia Holiday in the Park – In addition to the regular Six Flags fun, Holiday in Park includes visits with Santa, a holiday light spectacular, holidays shows, and an opportunity to learn about Christmas around the world. Holiday in the Park is open until January 2.

World of Coke – Experience holiday magic at the World of Coke in Atlanta with light displays, holiday photo opportunities, and special holiday-themed beverages. Enjoy Coca-Cola’s holiday experiences until January 3, 2022.

Callaway Gardens Fantasy in Lights –Fantasy in Lights is open now until January 3, 2022. Located just over an hour from Atlanta, Callaway Gardens’ Fantasy in Lights is one of National Geographic’s Top 10 Light Displays. Callaway Gardens is offering both walk-through and drive-through experiences in their Christmas Village and Fantasy in Lights Enchanted Forest. At the Christmas Market, families will be delighted with the seasonal snacks and character meet-and-greets!

Seasonal Ice Skating – Test your ice-skating skills at the following seasonal ice-skating rinks.

  • Avalon on Ice – Open until January 17, 2022. Cost: adults – $18, kids – $14.
  • Skate the Station at Atlantic Station – open until January 17, 2022. Cost: $15
  • Skate on the Square – The Plaza at Colony Square – open until January 17, 2022. Cost: adults – $18, kids – $14
  • Ice Rink at Sugar Hill – Currently open for public and private skating. The Ice Rink at Sugar Hill is also presenting Ice Skating Shows. Check out their website for more information.

It is a myth that winter is dull and boring! There is plenty to do and enjoy in the Atlanta area this season.
