A new school year brings about new challenges. The hustle and bustle begin. Packed lunches, pick-up lines, homework woes, and extracurriculars begin to occupy our already busy days. Despite the challenges that come with a new school year, there’s a silver lining for the parents. We can find self-solace once the kids are settled into the school year.

So, how can we treat ourselves, while the kids are in school?

Meet A Friend For Coffee/Lunch  Ahh!!! The school bell rings and we can finally breathe. The summer was long and occupied by little (adorable) people. But now we have some uninterrupted, adult, kid-free, time. So, call your girlfriends up and set a lunch date. Catch up on each other’s busy lives. Connect with an ex-coworker or another mom from your child’s school. Meet them for a quick cup of coffee before getting your day started. You’ll be glad you took this small moment for yourself.

Start A New Hobby  Have you been wanting to learn to crochet or become a master gardener? Do you have a list of books that you’ve been dying to read? Well, this is your time to shine. Since the kids are back to school, you can join that garden club in your neighborhood. You can teach yourself crochet by watching YouTube channels. You can read all the books on your list. And maybe you can join a book club online or at your local bookstore. The sky is your limit…because the kids are in school!!!

Get Physical One of the best times to tackle your fitness goals is while the kids are in school. Whether it be a yoga class, jogging around your neighborhood, visiting your gym for a freestyle workout, or finally going to the spin class you’ve heard so much about. Without the kids at home during the day, you can use your time to get or stay fit and healthy. Maintaining your health and fitness goals will only make you a better mommy for the kids once they are out of school. You will have your goals met so that you can focus on helping them meet their goals.

Learn While The Kids Are Learning.  There are so many benefits to continuous learning. There is never a more perfect time to be a student again than when your kids are also students. You could learn a foreign language through apps or by enrolling in a class. You could learn coding to impress your kids with your new-found tech skills. You could even go for that degree you put off a few years ago when you started a family.  Some technical schools and colleges welcome non-traditional students. In addition, there are financial resources to assist with the financial responsibility of going back to school. Check out the 11 Scholarship And Grants For Adults Going Back To School – Forbes Advisor. You should also check with your employer for education reimbursement or assistance.

The kids are back to school and we parents are back to SELF! Use the time that your kids are away to find some ways to treat yourself.  The best part about this is that it’s all guilt-free!
