Being an aviation family can be quite an adventure, and it’s no different when it comes to air shows. Living in Knoxville for several years, we always loved seeing the Blue Angels (Navy) perform at McGee-Tyson Airport. When we moved to South Atlanta, we were excited for the opportunity to see the Thunderbirds (Air Force) perform as a part of the Atlanta Air Show!

The Atlanta Air Show comes once a year in October to the Falcon Field Atlanta Regional Airport in Peachtree City. The show is a ton of fun to watch! In addition to the Thunderbirds, we watched an F-18 and F-35 perform a bunch of cool maneuvers. There were also helicopter demonstrations and some aerial performances with a P-51 Mustang and B-25 Bomber. There are also static planes to see as you walk around the area.

While there were several ticket options available, we opted to go with a “ramp box”. This allowed our family of four to have a dedicated “box” on the ramp with a great view of the show. As of this writing in November 2024, the fee includes admission for 4 people plus parking. Getting a ramp box allowed us to drop off our stuff in our box while we walked around.

Things You Will Need to Enjoy This Show!

  1. Ear protection for all people in your party
  2. Sunscreen, sunscreen, and more sunscreen
  3. Sunglasses
  4. Hats and/or umbrellas for shade – it can be very hot and sunny on the ramp!
  5. Folding camping chairs that are easy to carry
  6. A sealed bottle of water (up to a liter)
  7. iPads or other entertainment for kids… getting out of the parking lot after the show takes some time
  8. If you have little kids who can’t carry things, you can bring a wagon!

Jessie is married to a pilot, has two kids (a daughter and a son) plus a dog who thinks he’s a cheetah. She is a proud mom, an aspiring foodie (which mostly means she likes to eat), an okay-ish musician, and a crafter with an impressive collection of unfinished projects. Jessie and family traded the Knoxville area for Newnan, GA, in 2024 to be closer to family and the Atlanta airport. She’s a Tennessee Vol fan in a sea of Georgia fans, bravely wearing orange while singing “Rocky Top” at the top of her lungs. Jessie and her family love to explore new places, from Zoo Atlanta to the local farmers’ market. They’re taking full advantage of their proximity to the busiest airport in the world by traveling with the enthusiasm of a toddler who’s been promised ice cream. Jessie hopes to document their adventures as they learn all about the local parks, hikes, festivals, and attractions that south Atlanta has to offer.
