Houseplants for Everyone – Yes, Everyone

Houseplants for Everyone - Yes, Everyone

I love nearly everything about spring. I love spotting new blooms in flower beds and smelling the breeze just before a spring shower. The only thing I can do without is the pollen, but that’s life and another sign that gorgeous weather and beautiful sights are nearby. During the rest of the year, I rely on my houseplants to bring me the same joy that spring does.

My houseplant collection is still growing and I am ready to share my list of my favorite houseplants for your home. There’s something on this list for everyone even if you have a brown thumb.

For the New Plant Mom

The Golden Pothos is affectionately known as Devil’s Ivy because it is so difficult to kill. If you have no idea where to start but want something that will make it look like you know about plants then this is for you. I keep this plant in my home office space, but it will do great anywhere with bright indirect light. This plant will help you dabble in plants with minimal research since its care plan is simple.

Note for Pet Parents: It contains compounds toxic to cats and dogs, so if your pets tend to munch on whatever’s around, place it out of reach.

For the Forgetful One

Succulents and cacti are perfect for the busy or forgetful folks reading this. You’ll need to do some work when you create your succulent bowl or pot like finding the perfect spot for it and providing it with the correct soil. Once you do that you’ll water every month and as a slow-grower, you won’t need to worry about re-potting for quite some time.

For the Trendsetter

One of the most recognizable houseplants is probably the Monstera. You’ll spot their leaves on pillowcases, artwork, and more simply because it is a beauty. If you’re willing to put up with the work and the possibility that it may outgrow its space, this plant is for you. It needs a warm space, lots of sun and plenty of water.

For The Tropics Lover

If you’re looking for a tropical plant to liven up your space, look no further than the Bromeliad. They may look like they need lots of care and patience, but once potted in the perfect mix it is easy to care for them.

As a bonus, they will often give off “pups” that you can pot for a second plant.

For the Experienced Indoor Gardeners

I am currently on the hunt for an indoor citrus tree. Almost any home can grow lemon, lime, or kumquat. The tricky part is knowing and providing the ideal environment for these trees. They’re picky about the kind of water they want and they’ll more than likely need a moisture meter in their pot to help even the most experienced gardener. These trees do liven up a home though and I’m excited about adding one to our space.

Regardless of which plant you choose (or if you even go faux), adding a bit of greenery to your home will brighten up any space. I’d love to hear what plants you currently have in the comments below!
