Family Valentine’s Day

When we think of Valentine’s Day, we think of Romance. Candlelit dinners; roses; chocolates. We think of strolling through the city after dinner and ending the night with passion.

But for busy families, this isn’t what Valentine’s Day often looks like. Especially when we’re in the thick of it; when our babies are young; when school takes priority; when activities and schedules drive the wagon called ‘life’.

So how can we celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family and make it memorable and just as love-filled as ever? Let’s think outside the box of chocolates!

  • Think CasualPack the kids up and go out for a simple lunch or dinner. Burgers, fries and shakes would be just fitting for a busy family! If you have a local spot in your neighborhood, then this time spent together would be even more memorable!  If you have young kids, you want to choose a spot that has little expectation for etiquette. Then you can just let the kids have fun and focus on showing each other some Valentine’s love. Some of our favorite casual spots in and around Atlanta are Five Guys and Shake Shack. These yummy burger joints would make any family’s Valentine’s Day simply lovely.  Not into burgers? Go out for pizza or tacos! As long as the family is together, the love will surely be in the air.
  • Think Homebase Don’t feel obligated to get out into the frenzy!  Get excited about transforming your home into a personalized Valentine’s oasis for your little family.  Get some heart-inspired decorations.  Pull out the fancy dinnerware. Why not light some candles?! Put on a sweet movie or jazzy music. The sweet thing about celebrating Valentine’s Day at home is that you can make it as fancy or as laid back as you want.  What would be even cuter…let the kids get involved.  Maybe the kids can create a dinner menu and be servers for Mom and Dad.  Kids love that stuff!  Just be prepared for the collective sound of “ewwww” if Mommy and Daddy share a smooch at the end of the night. To make Valentine’s Day at home even more stress-free, try a delivery meal kit or personal chef!
  • Think Non-conventional When your Valentine’s Day can’t look the way it used to look pre-babies; you’ve got to make it look completely different.  Do something unique and unexpected that the whole family can get in on.  Visit the aquarium. Go to a jump park. Get out into nature for a walk or visit a farm or zoo.  Catch the new movie that’s in theaters. Get hands-on at a painting class or cooking class. Atlanta is packed from end to end with family-friendly activities, so you can’t go wrong with any of these options. Here are some action-packed ideas in Atlanta that will keep the Valentine’s spark going for the whole family:
  • Georgia Aquarium
  • Skyline Park at Ponce City Market
  • Sandbox VR
  • Ferris Wheel at Skyview Atlanta
  • Atlanta Zoo
  • Painting with a Twist
  • Your 3rd Spot at Chattahoochee Food Works
  • Ipic Theaters
  • Top Golf
  • Putt Shack
