
It’s warming up and I can’t wait to pack up my beach bag and head to the nearest lake for some fun in the sun with my family. Here are some of the best places to plan a family beach day in the area. Don’t forget sunscreen!
7 Lake Beaches Near Atlanta
The Beach at Cauble Park
4425 Beach Street NW Acworth, GA 30101
Cauble Park is one of the closest beaches to Atlanta. The beach season begins the last weekend in April and lasts through Labor Day. It is free to park and swim. Other park amenities include public restrooms, a playground, volleyball courts, fishing, boating, rentals, and more. Hours are from dawn to dusk.
The Beach at Red Top Mountain State Park
100 Red Top Beach Road Cartersville, GA 30121
Enjoy the roped-off sandy swimming beach on the southeastern portion of the Park. Red Top Mountain State Park is open from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. There is a parking fee of $5.00 for the day. You can also purchase an annual parking pass for $50 if you plan to make many trips to the park. There is a swimming beach with public bathrooms nearby too. Other nearby amenities of the park include a putt-putt golf course, playground, and picnic tables with barbecue grills. Make a day of it!
Mary Alice Beach
1820 Mary Alice Park Road Cumming, GA 30041
Mary Alice Park is located on the west side of Lake Lanier. Park hours are from 8:00 am – 9:00 pm. The park has public restrooms, barbecue grills, picnic tables, and a long sandy beach area for sunning or swimming.
Don Carter State Park
5000 North Browning Bridge Road Gainesville, GA 30506
Located on Lake Lanier, Don Carter State Park is located on the north end of the reservoir. The park is open from 7:00 am – 10:00 pm and the parking fee is $5 per vehicle per day. Here you can also rent cottages, camping, or RV space if you choose to stay for the evening. There is a sandy beach area with a bathhouse. Other amenities include a playground, boat ramp, outdoor fitness equipment, fish cleaning station, and a gift shop. Covered picnic areas may require a reservation.
Pine Lake Park and Beach
4580 Lakeshore Drive Stone Mountain, GA 30083
Enjoy a day at the expansive beach at Pine Lake in Stone Mountain. Lifeguards are on duty on this roped-off portion of the lake. Beach admission for the day is $5.00 per guest, children under 2 are free. The beach season begins in May. Beach hours are from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. Other amenities include restrooms, ice cream and refreshments stand, putt-putt golf, and water sport rentals.
Robin Lake Beach
17800 US-27 Pine Mountain, GA 31822 (Beach Entrance)
Located at Callaway Gardens you will find America’s largest inland white sand beach. Enjoy a floating obstacle course, mini golf, volleyball courts, and even cabana rentals. Beach access is included in Callaway Gardens’ general admission. Beach season begins at the end of May and lasts through Labor Day. General admission for Callaway Gardens is $29.95 for adults and 19.95 for children.
Costley Mill Lake Beach

Costley Mill Park in Conyers, Georgia, offers a serene and family-friendly lake beach experience just 45 minutes east of Atlanta. Nestled along Big Haynes Creek, this 77-acre park features a seasonal sandy beach open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The beach provides a gentle swimming area suitable for children, with lifeguards on duty during operating hours. The beach has a playground pavilion with 12 picnic tables, playground area, walking trails, and restrooms. General admission is $4.00 (cash only) and children under 3 are free.
