It’s time for a love fest for Valentine’s Day! While I’ll be shipping care packages to my college kids, I have found some unique Valentine’s ideas for you to celebrate at home with your family or in your child’s classroom.
Games
- Decorate a mason jar and fill it with family night activities or easy indoor challenges. Here’s one decorating idea.
- Balance the Hearts – This is a fun game that also uses fine motor skills, and of course, candy!
- Scavenger Hunt – All you need is to print out these cards, get some goodies, and set it up!
- The Love Game – A sweet exercise that encourages sharing affirmations and kind words with each other.
- Mittens and Kisses – A simple but silly activity where your kids will attempt to open candy wrappers while wearing their mittens.
Treats
- Edible love note – If you’re gifted in the kitchen, you can make sugar cookies from scratch, but I would probably get some slice and bake the dough and mold it into a square. You’ll also need some royal icing and a food coloring marker. Then, it’s up to your imagination and inner poet!
- Apple Love Bugs – This is a more detailed project, but is one of the most creative things I have seen in a while – and it’s healthy.
- Tic-Tac-Toe Treats – All you need are some graham crackers, candy hearts, and frosting to make the squares.
- Sundae Bites – These mix fruit and chocolate, and look like a yummy snack you can make together.
- Gnome Dessert Board – M&M’s, pretzels, gummies, and a cookie – enough said!
- Strawberry Cheesecake Dip – No cooking required! Pair this dip with heart-shaped pretzels – we have spotted some at the Lidl chain of grocery stores.
Crafts
- Salt Dough Heart Garland – If you don’t mind a few extra steps, this project seems straightforward, creative, and is something you can hang on to for years to come. Instead of cookie stamps, you could substitute your kids’ fingerprints or their own designs.
- Candy Critter – A bunch of candy, some googly eyes, and walla!
- Heart Sun Catchers – You have everything you need for this craft already at home, and you’ll end up with something pretty for your window.
- Shake Painting Hearts – Looking for something relatively mess-free for toddlers? Just set up all the materials in a sealed container and let them shake away. After the paint dries, you can help them glue the finished product onto paper.
- Heart Thumbprint Platter – What a beautiful family keepsake. It requires the purchase of a porcelain platter, as well as glass paint or multi-surface, appliance-safe paint, and a sharpie.
Extra Credit – I thought this Candy Heart Valentine Bouquet was the cutest table decoration, so I had to add it.
Hope you and yours have fun happy hearts day! Share your unique Valentine’s ideas with us in the comments below!
