There has been something special about being home as a family of 5 during this pandemic. We witnessed firsts for all three of our kids. Oldest son graduated from kindergarten and we were able to be a critical part of his kindergarten year by teaching and learning alongside him. Our middle son moved from a crib to a toddler bed. Our youngest started walking and we saw her for real first steps in person. This also meant we were truly at a disadvantage – no more man-coverage with three kids 6 and under that could all really move on their own. And we quickly realized our middle son was tall enough (and smart enough) to unlock the doors AND open the door with the child-proof handles.
We had a few occasions when we heard the “beep” from our alarm to alert us that a door going outside (or garage) had been opened. We needed a solution. FAST.
That’s when we found The Door Guardian. It was the perfect solution for our garage door – the one the toddler ALWAYS wanted to open and ALWAYS found a way to successfully open the door. We found the in-swinging model for our door and in less than 5 minutes it was installed and we could finally be at peace knowing our 3 1/2 year old would not be able to escape to the garage unless we were ready for an adventure outdoors.
We love The Door Guardian because:
- Easy to install on either an in-swinging or out-swinging door
- Doesn’t require any additional tools (no drill, no tape measure, no screwdriver – unless you want to double secure the lock, which we will add to our list of projects for a later date, we just needed something that worked right away)
- When our kids grow out of this stage, we will be able to easily remove the lock and not have a major repair project on our list to complete because it is mounted on the door with 3M adhesive.
