Where to Donate Items In and Around Atlanta

Our kids frequently outgrow their clothes. Sometimes WE outgrow clothes… Circumstances change, and those stylish pencil skirts no longer have a place in our stay-at-home mom world or our new permanent work from home gig. We discover we might not need 87 Pyrex baking dishes. We read books and want to share them with someone new. Our kids age out of their favorite toys. We take on household projects and end up with a (mostly) finished bathroom and three-quarters of a box of extra tile collecting dust in the garage.

Where to Donate Items In and Around AtlantaIf you’re gearing up for a traditional spring cleaning, you may be just about to discover that you have a few things lying around the house that you no longer need and that you’d be willing to donate to others. So why not make a little more room in your home, give some of your clothes and household items a second life, and do some good in the community (we’re moms – we love to multitask!).

Here are a few local places around Atlanta that can do some good with the items you donate.

Dress for Success Atlanta

Drop Off Location: 6255 Barfield Road., Suite 155, Atlanta, GA 20238

If you’re in a new season in life (maybe one that no longer requires a closet full of slacks and blouses), you may have a professional wardrobe taking up some much-needed closet space. Dress for Success accepts gently used professional clothing as part of its mission to empower women to achieve economic independence.

MUST Ministries

Drop Off Location: 1280 Field Parkway, Marietta, GA 30066

MUST meets the needs of individuals in Cobb and Cherokee counties by providing emergency shelter, meals, groceries, clothing, training, educational resources, and so much more. MUST accepts donations of clothing, shoes, housewares, linens, and some appliances.

American Kidney Services

Drop Off Locations: Throughout the Atlanta area. Click here to find a location near you.

AKS is an Atlanta-based charity with a country-wide reach. Proceeds from donated items—such as clothing, electronics, home goods, and small appliances—go to the American Kidney Fund to help kidney patients throughout the country meet their daily living expenses (like rent and utilities). AKS has centers to donate throughout metro Atlanta but will also pick up items at your home.

Atlanta Mission

Drop Off Location:2353 Bolton Road. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

Atlanta Mission’s goal is to empower those experiencing homelessness in Atlanta. The organization accepts new and gently used clothing for men, women, and children and currently has an urgent need for professional attire.

HOPE for Domestic Violence

Drop Off Location: Your home! They pick up!

HOPE is a program outreach focusing on single women and mothers with children transitioning from domestic violence. You can schedule a time and they will actually come to you to pick up your donations… doesn’t get much easier than that, and for a great cause.

Seeds Thrift Boutique

Drop Off Location: 295 Molly Lane, Suite 100, Woodstock, GA 30189

Seeds is located in Woodstock. The thrift store accepts baby and adult clothing, furniture and home goods, toys, books, baby equipment, and diapers. Proceeds from Seeds support the HOPE Center, which supports pregnant moms in our community.

Goodwill

Drop Off Locations: Throughout the Atlanta area. Click here to find a location near you.

We’d be remiss if we left this one off the list. Goodwill stores accept household goods, clothing, toys, furniture, and so much more. There are over 100 stores and donation centers throughout the metro Atlanta area, so there’s probably one near you to drop off your things. Goodwill’s mission is to put people to work. They provide job training programs, employment opportunities, and job search resources.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Drop Off Locations: Smyrna, Lawrenceville, and McDonough

I love Habitat’s ReStore! The Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts working appliances, building materials, flooring, furniture, hardware, home décor, and more. The ReStore sells the items to raise money for Habitat for Humanity’s mission of eliminating substandard housing. It’s also a great place to shop for your own home improvement projects!

Foster Care Support Foundation

Drop Off Location: 115 Mansell Place, Roswell, GA 30076

As of 2021, over 15,000 children in Georgia are placed in foster care, not including hundreds of thousands of children being raised by thousands of grandparents, relatives, or fictive kin. They aim to support these children by providing vital, basic needs, but we cannot achieve our goals alone. Please note that drop off is by appointment only, but making an appointment is super easy on their website!

Other Moms

Drop Off Location: Anywhere kids are growing and moms are doing laundry

I have young kids, and based on their ages, we practically cycle through a new set of clothes twice a year as seasons change. Turning over their closets takes a lot of time and it’s certainly not cheap. I have a very dear friend who brought me a bag of size 18-month shorts when my kiddo changed sizes mid-season and taught me that one of the best (and easiest) things you can do for a fellow mom is to pass along clothes and ease that burden. If you have young kids who outgrow their clothes long before they wear them out, consider passing them along to a friend – she will absolutely appreciate it!
