I grew up hating all of the breakfast foods like eggs, cream of wheat, grits, and of course oatmeal. Actually, not much has changed as an adult because I still dislike most of those foods except I have started to recently get into oatmeal.

Making better food choices has put me on the journey of searching for healthy recipes that actually taste good. I could tolerate instant oatmeal but it wasn’t until I came across these recipes and started making oatmeal on my own that I discovered these favorites. Not only do I love these recipes because they taste like dessert, but also because oatmeal is a healthier breakfast choice and it keeps me full for a lot longer than most food.

Here are my 3 favorite recipes using oatmeal.

Banana Nut Oatmeal

Ingredients:

1/2 Banana

Maple Syrup

1T Peanut butter

Chopped Pecans

1/2 tsp of vanilla extract

Cinnamon

1/2 cup Old fashioned oats

1 cup of milk (you can use water, almond milk, or oat milk)

Directions: Put your oats, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon in a pot on the stove and cook until done. While your oatmeal is cooking, smash the banana in your bowl. Add the peanut butter. Drizzle a little bit of maple syrup and sprinkle chopped pecans. Once the oatmeal is done cooking add to your bowl and mix everything together. Add chocolate chips or coconut if desired.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Old fashioned oats

1/2 Apple (peeled and chopped)

1 cup Oatmilk

Pumpkin Pie Spice

Chopped Pecans

Maple Syrup

Directions: Again, pretty simple. Put oats, chopped apple, oatmilk, and pumpkin pie spice in a pot on the stove and cook until done. Once cooked, transfer to a bowl topped with chopped pecans, and drizzle with maple syrup. This recipe literally tastes like pie!

3 Ingredient Oatmeal Pancakes

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup of rolled oats

1 large banana (the riper the better)

1 cup + 2 tablespoons of milk of choice

Directions: In a high-speed blender, add all your ingredients and blend very well until a smooth batter remains. Let the batter sit for 5 minutes, to thicken. Grease a non-stick pan and heat on medium. Once hot, add scant 1/4 cup portions of pancake batter and cover the pan. Let the pancakes cook for 2-3 minutes, before flipping and cooking for a further 2 minutes. Transfer to a large plate. Repeat the process until all the pancake batter is used up. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings. My kids LOVE these “pancakes”.

Who knew oatmeal could taste like a sweet treat? Your family will love these oatmeal recipes (if you can just get them to try it). What are your favorite recipes?
