September Family-Friendly Events In and Around Atlanta

August 30 – September 1Art in the Park, Marietta Square, 10 am-5 pm. This Atlanta Labor Day weekend tradition is celebrating its 39th year! The incredible three-day juried Fine Art Festival takes place on the historic Marietta Square in Glover Park and attracts over 55,000 guests.

September 1 Labor Day Family Canoe Day, Chattahoochee Nature Center, 10:30 am-12 pm. Take advantage of this day off with a relaxing paddle on CNC’s Beaver Pond for first-time paddlers, families with young kids, or adults coming back to the sport. For ages 5+. Advanced registration required.

September 3-28Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type, Center for Puppetry Arts. Cows that type? Chickens on strike? Farmer Brown can’t believe his ears! Join the barnyard fun in this musical adaptation of the children’s book that won a 2001 Caldecott Honor. This show is suitable for ages 4+.

September 4-7Yellow Daisy Festival, Stone Mountain Park. Visit over 400 artists and crafters set beneath the trees in the events meadow. Fabulous festival food, craft demonstrations, live music, and a beer garden are the highlights of this special event.

September 4-30Latin American Heritage Month, Children’s Museum of Atlanta.  This September, the Children’s Museum is celebrating some of the Latine individuals who have helped shape our world.

September 5Art Walk, Marietta Square, 5-9 pm. Experience the local art scene and dine at the restaurant you have been wanting to try. Good for a date night or a way to casually introduce your kids to local art and artists.

September 5, 12, & 26Bats and Bites Ballpark Tour, Truist Park, 3-6 pm.  Come experience Truist Park’s newest food selections while watching batting practice from the outfield!

September 6Firefighter 5K, Atlanta Track Club, 8 am. Lace up your running shoes and hit the streets of Atlanta to show your support for our city’s fearless firefighters and first responders. This family-friendly event is a chance to run with purpose while benefiting the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation.

September 9Tuesdays in the Field, Georgia Aquarium, 9 am-1 pm. The Education team is excited to offer an experience for K-12 homeschool students that provides the opportunity to engage in standards-based instruction at their own pace while exploring topics in marine biology, oceanography, ecology, and other science-related fields.

September 13Reynoldstown Wheelbarrow Festival, Lang-Carson Park, 12-7 pm. Come out for a day filled with lively music, mouthwatering food, and fabulous local vendors showcasing their goods. Bring the whole family and enjoy fun activities for all ages, including arts and crafts, an artisan market, a .5K race, and cornhole, pickleball, and volleyball tournaments.

September 14UPS Second Sunday, High Museum of Art, 12-5 pm. FREE admission for all visitors.

September 18-28North Georgia State Fair, Jim R. Miller Park. From unlimited rides to family-friendly attractions and mouthwatering fair food, there’s something for everyone at Cobb County’s biggest event of the year

September 20Cereal Saturdays, Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts, 10 am-12:30 pm. Revisit classic puppet TV shows from the past in a laid-back, living room-like environment, complete with a selection of cereals, milk, juice, and coffee available for purchase. Cereal Saturday is included with paid museum admission.

September 20 Forestry Day, Fernbank, 10 am-1 pm. Climb into the world of working forests during Forestry Day, where you’ll explore the relationship between humans and forests through demonstrations and hands-on activities.

September 20-21Suwanee Fest, Suwanee Town Center. Calling all dinosaur enthusiasts, explorers, and junior paleontologists! Suwanee Fest is packed with prehistoric fun for the whole family. Step into our Jurassic playground and discover activities designed to entertain and delight adventurers of all ages.

September 26 – October 6Georgia State Fair, Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Georgia State Fair offers exciting attractions and shows, all your favorite fair food, spectacular carnival rides, and kiddie rides. It’s safe, clean family fun!

September 27Heavy Metal in Motion, Tellus Science Museum, 10 am-4 pm. Get ready for an awesome display of big machines and powerful vehicles that showcase the science of engineering in action. From an Army helicopter, specialty equipment, and emergency response vehicles to rides you might recognize from the silver screen, this is a day to get hands-on with machines that move our world! Helicopter landing at approximately 11 am.

September 27-28Family Backyard Campout at the Dunwoody Nature Center. This family-friendly overnight experience includes a guided night hike, a cozy campfire complete with s’mores, stargazing, nature crafts, self-guided activities, and the soothing sounds of the forest.

September 27-28Duluth Fall Festival, Downtown Duluth. Opening with a parade on Saturday morning and boasting more than 150 vendors and food options, come kick off fall in Duluth!
