It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to a close and school is just about back in session. But here in Atlanta, there’s still plenty of fun to be had! Whether you’re looking for an exciting family adventure or a chill way to just get out of the house, we’ve rounded up some great local events.

August Family-Friendly Events In and Around Atlanta

August 1Art Walk, Marietta Square, 5-9 pm. Experience the local art scene and dine at the restaurant you have been wanting to try. Good for a date night or a way to casually introduce your kids to local art and artists.

August 2Westside Beltline 5K – 8K, Atlanta Track Club, 7 am. Test your speed in the competitive 8K (ages 9 & older) or stick to the non-competitive 5K (ages 8 & older,) where strollers and dogs are welcome.

August 2Free First Saturday – Reptiles and Amphibians at the Dunwoody Nature Center, 1-2 pm. A free, family-friendly wildlife experience featuring live reptiles and amphibians up close.

Now – August 3Harold and the Purple Crayon, Center for Puppetry Arts. Join Harold on this whimsical adventure and discover the magic of creativity in a world where anything is possible! This show is suitable for children aged 4 and above.

August 10UPS Second Sunday, High Museum of Art, 12-5 pm. FREE admission for all visitors.

August 14Screen on the Green, Atlantic Station, 7-9 pm. You have a friend in Atlantic Station at this month’s Screen on the Green: In recognition of National Friend Day (August 3), they’ll be showing the Pixar classic, Toy Story!

August 162025 Atlanta’s Finest 5K, Atlanta Track Club, 7:30 am. Join the Atlanta Police Foundation for the 2025 Atlanta’s Finest 5K, organized by Atlanta Track Club.

August 16 Electronics Recycling at Zoo Atlanta. Bring your cell phones and small electronics to Zoo Atlanta for recycling to support the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Gorilla SAFE program.

August 16Cereal Saturdays, Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts, 10 am-12:30 pm. Revisit classic puppet TV shows from the past in a laid-back, living room-like environment, complete with a selection of cereals, milk, juice, and coffee available for purchase. Cereal Saturday is included with paid museum admission.

August 16Summerfest at Live! At The Battery Atlanta, 2-6 pm. Prepare for an afternoon filled with laughter, great tunes, and mouthwatering delights. Summerfest is a celebration for the whole family with outdoor games, live music, and engaging activities for all ages.

August 23Reptile Day, Fernbank, 10 am-1 pm. Come face-to-face with live snakes, lizards, turtles, and other members of the animal kingdom, and discover how we’re not so different from each other after all. The event is included with General Admission.

August 23RnB Mimosa Festival, Atlantic Station, 4-9 pm. Come to Atlantic Station for an all-new festival experience, including multiple mimosa varieties, food vendors, music, and good vibes. This is a 21+ event.

August 30Play the Animal Way, Zoo Atlanta, 10 am-3 pm. Watch your favorite Zoo animals investigate the most colorful treats of the year, sniff out their favorite scents, and solve challenging puzzles. Human guests can try a few hands-on activities at stations throughout the Zoo.
